FM Consulting has created some of the most desirable residential complexes on the Costa del Sol since our founding in 1990. Part of the secret of our success has been our understanding of what consumers want when buying a modern property. Down the years we have always maintained our position at the cutting edge of design to ensure we give our customers what they want—and this changes from year to year to reflect the most up-to-date trends and amenities.
Of course, some things never change, and the prime attraction of any property remains its location. Fortunately the Costa del Sol is one of the most desirable parts of the world in which to live—particularly near the beaches, verging leafy golf courses or in country club retreats.
Treating location as a given, there is no doubt that today’s buyer increasingly wants a new build home designed to the latest architectural styles with the most modern amenities included. The latest trend is for contemporary-style homes, often incorporating Andalusian elements and making great use of natural materials such as quality wood, stone and marble as well as quality ceramics. Full-length windows not only let the light flood in to airy open-plan interiors but also make the most of the spectacular views so prevalent in Marbella and the surrounding areas.
Home automation systems to control everything from lighting and entertainment systems to security and garden irrigation are also highly sought after, as is internet connectivity, ideally with fibreoptic connections to all bedrooms. Many buyers have a list of what they want from each part of the home—below are some of the main trends we have seen recently:
When it comes to the sitting and dining rooms open-plan is the outstanding factor. Spacious interiors should flow on to outside terraces enabling an indoor/outdoor lifestyle. The living area should be a place in which to relax, watch TV, dine and entertain in one interactive space, often with open access to the kitchen. Thoughtful interior design is much appreciated too, with clean, clutter-free shapes creating intimate spaces within the larger area. Entertainment zones with cinema TV, games tables, bars and home entertainment systems are also very popular.
By incorporating the kitchen into the living space an emphasis has been put on new aesthetics to match the clean lines of the living areas. Simple, minimalist trends remove the high-end appliances from sight at the touch of a button, while natural stonework surfaces reflect the interior design of the open-plan living rooms.
Bedrooms should have en suite bathroom facilities, while master suites including a dressing room and walk-in closets are very popular in today’s market. Bathrooms are the focus of attention, with Jacuzzi baths, cascading ‘waterfall’ style showers—often with tropical design elements such as Balinese themes creating a luscious world in which to bathe and relax.
FM Consulting has a selection of off-plan and new build developments available on the Costa del Sol, as well as a wide array of pre-owned homes on offer through FM Properties.
